Translated into English by C L Lyttelton, 'The White Lady' and 'Undine' are two well known stories by German writers Karoline von Woltmann and Friedrich de la Motte Fouque. 'Undine' is La Motte Fouque's most notable work and is a fairy-tale in which Undine, a water spirit, marries a knight named Huldebrand in order to gain a soul. 'The White Lady' is a story based upon the legend of the White Lady Ghost, said to haunt castles of several European aristocratic families.
