The twelve unfixed art pieces and the letter of provenance are now in protective archival sleeves. Trade paperback. First printing, June 1998 (stated).

Note of provenance: "This sketchbook first published in 1998 contains a lengthy interview with the artist and reproduces hundreds of the artist's early drawings executed during the 1950s and 1960s. In addition this unique copy of the book contains a tipped in original drawing by Williamson and 11 loosely inserted drawings all of them reproduced in the pages of the book. Williamson's early drawings when he was working alongside Roy Krenkel, Angelo Torres and Frank Frazetta for EC Comics were in the opinion of Roy Krenkel among the best he ever drew having rhythmic freedom in their execution and a love of pure unrestrained inspirational drawing that Roy felt was lacking in Williamson's later inked work when he was depending on the assistance of a projector. Williamson on a visit on my part to his house back in the mid-1980s concurred with this opinion and regretted not keeping more of them. Those he did save he told me he gave to Roy Krenkel who was fond of them. These drawings that Williamson presented to Krenkel make up the bulk of the illustrations in this sketchbook. They have been preserved here to study and admire. These original drawings are (with the exception of the small frontispiece drawing of Flash Gordon which is not included in the published volume) drawn in pen and ink on translucent vellum and have been laid in opposite the pages where they appear in the book. Williamson is widely admired throughout the world for the beauty of his linework and he remains one of the fines comic book and comic strip artists in the history of the genre. That his earlier sketches have not been brought to light sufficiently before is rectified in this book which I think must have made Al very happy when it appeared and still must wherever he is.
