Throughout his life, Cowles maintained an interest in the lifestyle and mannerisms of Gypsies, publishing numerous poems about the Gypsy way of life in The Library World, such as \"Gypsy Blood\" and \"Gypsy Pilgrimage,\" and maintaining correspondence with others who shared his interests. Noné Holt-Jackson was likely one of these correspondents. Cowles has written a Romanian poem, \"Patréni,\" or \"Travels,\" on the front flyleaf, just underneath his Hindi inscription.
