Book Condition: Good+: 4 missing galley sheets. A small roughly punched hole to the upper right corner of each galley, some holes closed over. A few minor tears to the edges. Protected in a clear sleeve. Manila envelope.
Notes: A short adventure novel. One of ERB's rarest works. The story was written in 1915 as an idea for a film. Working title "Ben, King of Beasts". The story as "The Man-Eater" first appeared in serial format in the newspaper "The Evening World" New York, Nov 15-20, 1915. It was published in 1955 anonymously in a very limited number (300 copies) by Lloyd Arthur Eshbach (Fantasy Press), as a fanzine pamphlet. Then in 1957 the first hardbound edition (3000 copies) - as part of the collection "Beyond Thirty and The Man-Eater" by Bradford M. Day's Science-Fiction & Fantasy Publications. Eshbach's and Day's publications were done while the stories were in the public domain. The Burroughs Estate did not renew copyrights until several years later.
