Notes: "A lost race science fiction novel of a balloon journey to a Symmes-style inner world illuminated by its own sun and inhabited by giant people... This is, to my knowledge, the only 19th century British Sumess-style inner world story." - Lock, A Spectrum of Fantast, p. 135. "Swiftian country in Symmesia hole ... Satrie on religion enslaving giants: narrator expelled by priests. One of the most noteworthy tales of its kind." - Suvin, Victorian Science Fiction in the UK, p. 30. "Well-handled on the whole; imaginative, amusing, nicely detailed, but with confusion between destructive and constructive satire weakens the impact of the story." - Bleiler, Science-Fiction: The Early Years 1300.
