Date: 1937
Edition: First Edition
Features: First printing 1937, stated. Orange cloth with black lettering and ruling; 312 pp. Publisher's adverts laid in. The second R. R. Ryan novel. Psychological thriller. A young couple exacts revenge upon a sadistic man who has taken sexual advantage of a vulnerable young woman. R(ex) R. Ryan, a pseudonym of Evelyn Bradley (1882–1950), was the author of twelve published horror/thriller novels. Like many of R.R. Ryan’s novels, Death of a Sadist is incredibly rare, with very few copies known to exist. Like Ryan’s other works, this book explores themes of cruelty, insanity, and sadism, pushing the boundaries of horror literature for its time. Though Ryan's works were long obscure, they are now recognized as precursors to the psychological and extreme horror genres that would later be popularized by writers such as Ramsey Campbell and Stephen King.

Foxing to fore and bottom edges of text block and to pages throughout. Front free endpaper missing. Library stamp to p. 171 and to rear pastedown. No jacket present.
