Original Comic Strip Art by Harrison Cady, Illustrator of Thornton Burgess - Peter Rabbit and more
Description:

Original illustration by Harrison Cady (American, 1877-1970)

Ink and watercolor, bordered 14" x 10-1/2" panel, piece measuring 20" x 14"

'Young Jim Hippo, Jungle Fashions 1929'

Cady, an American illustrator best known for his works in Bedtime Stories, created the artwork for a daily-newspaper  by book and magazine writer Thornton W. Burgess.  Burgess conceived the character of Peter Rabbit (not to be confused with Beatrix Potters creation of the same name), and each of these Bedtime Stories was illustrated with a drawing by Cady, who had illustrated some of Burgess magazine stories as early as 1911.

Cady was very prolific, illustrating over 70 years for such publications as St. Nicholas Magazine, Boys' Life, The Saturday Evening Post, Ladies' Home Journal, Good Housekeeping and Country Gentleman. He illustrated the Queen Silver-Bell series by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
