Virgil Finlay, one of the greatest fantasy illustrators of our time, began his illustrious career at the tender age of 21 with his first two commissioned pieces debuting in the December 1935 issue of Weird Tales. In fact, it was famed Weird Tales editor Farnsworth Wright, that was catalyst behind the stunning work we have to offer here at Heartwood Books and Art today. Finlay’s gorgeous illustrations for Wright’s paperback adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream” were considered lost until the 1970s. There was a total of 25 original pieces Finlay created for the book, all done in what would become Finlay’s unmistakable style.
"Bottom: I have had a dream..." is an illustration of Act 4 Scene 1 of Shakespeare's play and was the 20th plate in the novelization.Original Art "Bottom I Have Had a Dream" Illustration by Virgil FinlayArtist: Virgil FinlayAuthor: William ShakespeareCondition: FineDate: 1935ITEM1145
