Much like fictionalized police procedural programming on television today, magazines like Master Detective focused on the details of police work and those involved in the crime. Although some of the earliest true crime magazines had fictionalized accounts of crime, the audience demand for factual vice was clear, and Master Detective delivered. With its first issue released in September 1929, Master Detective was at the forefront of the true crime movement and stayed in publication until September 1995.
