James Atlee Phillips, who wrote a series of detective novels under the name Philip Atlee, began his career as a magazine writer under his own name, contributing to publications including The Saturday Evening Post, Collier`s and Story magazines. Among his early novels were ``The Shivering Chorus Girl`` ; Articles: "Some Pops Stay Tops" with photos of Patti Page, Peggy Lee, Dinah Shore and others; "Duel with Pistols" by John Steinbeck, an American author of twenty-seven books, including sixteen novels, six non-fiction books, and five collections of short stories. He is widely known for the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Grapes of Wrath (1939), East of Eden (1952) and the novella Of Mice and Men (1937). Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962
